Pioneer Women and Paper Patchwork
In Elisabeth Bacque’s new series, Pioneer Women and Paper Patchwork, she departs from traditional painting in oils and acrylics to use collage and mixed media to celebrate the courage and achievements of thirteen Canadian women pioneers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Inspired by early patchwork quilts with their intricate and colourful patterns, she uses paper images, birch bark, old letters, journals, maps and recipes instead of fabric to tell their fascinating stories.
